La Curandera Cumbiambera is a science fiction animation similar to Heavy Metal or Akira that tells the story of a dying Earth ruled by a mutant dictator and his quest to conquer new worlds. A small group of animals band together to fight back and summon the ancient healers for help in battle.
La Curandera Cumbiambera is over two years in the making and is a collaboration between Director/Composer Ivan Flores and Lead Animator John Coulter, who have worked together before on the animated video "Chupacabre." The film uses a unique combination of technologies to achieve its finished look including traditional 2D animation, blended with rotoscoping, 3d CGI, miniatures, artificial intelligence rendered images and more.
